As a church covenant is a summary of how a Christian group agrees to live. A Statement of Faith or Statement of Core Beliefs is a good summary of what a Christian group agrees are the essential truths of the Christian faith. We at Berean Baptist Church hold to the following core beliefs:
We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God and completely describes God’s plan to rescue us from spiritual death and to restore us to a friendly relationship with Him as well as to be our master guide by which we live our lives and practice our Christian beliefs.
We believe in one God who is the creator of all good things, the supreme ruler over the universe, all powerful, all knowing, everywhere present and unchanging. We also believe that He is holy, just, loving, faithful, and good.
We believe that God, unhindered by time, space or dimensions, eternally exists within himself in three different persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – all of whom are fully God and all of whom are equal. We call this mystery the Trinity.
We believe that men and women were created by God, for God and to be in a healthy relationship with God and with each other. However, due to our rebellion against God by our self-centered and evil ways, every person has acquired spiritual and physical death, eternal separation from God and discord from their own kind.
We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, that He was miraculously conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit; born of the Virgin Mary and willingly lived a life perfectly obedient to God’s rules for life and in harmony with God the Father.
We believe that Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, primarily came to live among us to voluntarily pay the penalty for humanity’s disobedience to God by dying as a substitute for us on a cross. He gave His life for us so we could be right with God again.
We believe that after Jesus Christ’s death, He was placed in a tomb for three days but then raised from the dead by the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit, walked the earth and was seen by many witnesses before ascending to heaven.
We believe that the resurrection of Jesus Christ confirms who He is, the Great Deliverer and Savior of the entire world, and that His work on the cross can make things right between us and God and restore harmony to the Lord’s creation.
We believe the way to make things right with God is to confess to God and the world and believe in one’s heart that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord. By doing this, we accept God’s free gift of salvation and restoration through Jesus Christ and are willing to allow Him to bring meaning and guidance to our lives. We believe that God enables us to live a meaningful and God-guided life by coming to reside in us by way of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity. It is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that molds our lives to be Christ-like and empowers each believer to be a passionate witness for Him in the world and lovingly serve others.
We believe that Jesus Christ will one day visibly return to the earth at the end of days and make all things right. Those who receive God’s gift of salvation prior to His return will know God’s favor and unity with Him for all eternity. Those who reject God’s gift of salvation during their lives will experience great unhappiness and be separated from God for all eternity.
We believe that until that day comes we, His people, the church have a mission. Our mission is to gather together for genuine worship, build lasting and significant relationships with one another, share passionately the good news about Jesus Christ with others, grow in our understanding of the faith until we reach full maturity, be good stewards of all that God gives us, equip families and children for godly lives and gladly serve in the community in which we live and lovingly assist those in need.
We believe this statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Berean Baptist Church's faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Pastor and the Board of Deacons are Berean Baptist Church's final interpretive authority on the Bible's meaning and application.
